I am looking for a means of sending packages overseas at a reasonable rate. Another RPCV and myself would like to send new and used baby items to a church in Jamaica. The regular postal rates are unreasonably high to make this a worthwhile effort. Any ideas how to send packages cheaper? Is there an organization we can ship through or does Peace Corps or NPCA provide some assistance in the area?

Hi Lisa,
You may find it helpful to contact the John Bosco Home in Mandeville, Jamaica. They have a mother house in the states. You may be able to send items to them here in the States and they may cover the cost of sending on to Jamaica.

Sister Susan was the head of the school while I was in Jamaica back in 1991. However, a recent article I read in the Jamaican Gleaner showed a picture of her playing an instrument and indicated she is still with the Bosco Home in Mandeville.

If you can get in touch with a current PCV in Jamaica, preferably one who is assigned relatively close to the PC office, the PCV may be able to cut a deal with the PC country director whereby a package or packages are sent to the director's APO address.
