I recently read a book about a female American writer who had spent 2 years teaching in Africa.
The book is fiction but based on true experience, I believe. Unfortunately when I wanted to recommend it to a friend I was unable to remember enough references. The main character gets involved with the villagers, has trouble dealing with Muslim and african values, is courted by the village chief and gets involved with a local doctor. The country's colonial language is French and the book is fairly recent.
Anyone can help with a name for book or author?
A rejected Angolan,
Zee

I think from your description that the book you are referring to may be Ivory Coast RPCV Sarah Erdman's Nine Hills to Nambonkaha : Two Years in the Heart of an African Village. You can read reviews of it here, here, and here.

I don't think Sarah Erdman's book is the one Zee is referring to. Her book is non-fiction and she had no 'involvement' with the local doctor or chief.
