Marty, I've been wondering what has happened to you in the intervening ** years! Your successor, Elaine Burgess, is here in Albuquerque with me and we have spent much time reminiscing about the old days. You can reach me at judyinabq@aol.com. Judy Weatherford

Dear Judy,

I was a close friend of Marty when he lived in Philadelphia in the last 80's. I am sorry to inform you that he passed away in Florida around 2002, I do not have the exact information. I know his sister lived there and I believe he went to stay with her. His health was not very good for a couple of years but he was always very upbeat. We will all miss him. Sorry to pass this sad news along in a email, but thought you might want to know.

I knew Marty when he was going to school at IUP in Indiana, PA. I was a freshman and he was a senior(?). He told me he had joined the Peace Corps and was assigned to Afghanistan. I learned how to say Kabul from him. I never saw him
again but he was one of the smartest, kindest men with a great sense of humor that I've even known. The world lost one terrific man when Marty died. I'm sorry that I didn't see him again before he died. He taught me a lot in the year or so that I knew him and I've admired him since that time. IIRC he, at one time, studied for and considered being a Catholic priest. God Bless You, Marty.

I also knew Marty when he was at IUP. He was active in the college newspaper and with projects such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters. A very talented capable and committed individual. We both joined the Peace Corps in 1967. I went to Korea as a PCV for 2 years. Sorry that I never realized he was still in Afghanistan and we never re-connected.
