I am very overweight.(5'10", 300 lbs) However, I am mobile and do not have diabetes, blood pressure is well under control. I have been working with a cardio trainer for over a year and have lost 70 lbs. How physically demanding IS serving? I wish to perform health education or teach ESL.

Good work with the trainer and the first 70 pounds. Peace Corps assignments vary. However, just living in the Third World requires much more stamina than life here. You will walk much more and may have to carry much more than you are accustomed to at home (with a car). I suggest you contact a Peace Corps recruiter and ask if they have a guide to weight and height requirements without getting personally specific. After all, you will lose more weight, right?

I was a volunteer in Honduras (1975-1977). None of the volunteers were overweight. Generally, men lost 10 pounds and women gained 10 pounds. Good luck to you!
