DIRECTOR, CENTER FOCUSED ON INTERNATIONAL GOVERNANCE UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY, SUNY The Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy invites nominations and applications of individuals to lead a center focused on the development of institutions of governance in emerging democracies. The College currently houses these activities under its Center for Legislative Development, which has provided technical assistance in a wide array of nations for some three decades. The new Director will bring a strategic vision to the center, secure the external funding needed to sustain the center’s initiatives, and contribute to the core academic programs of Rockefeller College (see www.albany.edu/rockefeller). The Director will take the lead in defining the scope of projects to be undertaken by the Center and, possibly, in renaming the Center in a way that reflects its activities. A candidate with the following characteristics will receive preference: knowledge of and experience in developing governing institutions in emerging democracies; a proven track record in obtaining external funding for these initiatives; relevant leadership and management experience; and a doctorate in a pertinent social science discipline. The Director will be appointed to an appropriate qualified or tenure track academic title in Rockefeller College. Candidates will also have the demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people. Applications should be submitted as soon as possible, preferably by April 5, 2004. A review of applications will commence on April 6, 2004 and will continue until the position is filled. We anticipate filling the position by September 1, 2004 or as soon thereafter as possible.
