I am considering resigning for reasons that aren't worth discussing here, but want to do it in the most responsible way possible. I have seen other volunteers come and go, and when they have made the decision to leave it's almost like they are rushed out of the country overnight-- but in those circumstances the volunteer was ETing in order to avoid being separated as a disciplinary measure. However, this is not at all the case with me. I would like to be able to tell P.C. that I am going to be leaving on a certain date, perhaps a month or 2 in the future, then be able to let the people I work with, land lord, etc. know with enough time to fully work through and discuss things, and not leave a mess behind me.

Does anyone know Peace Corp's policy on this? Can you inform P.C. of resignation as of a set date in the future? I am afraid that once I say something they'll tell me I just have to leave right away. I'd really rather be able to be up-front about it instead of having to make preparations to leave behind people's back. It's hard to know who to ask, since even though I am not yet positive about my decision I know that any inquiry will get people talking and speculating and assuming - all things that I'm intent on avoiding.

Thanks in advance for any useful advice as far as policy, etc. on this, or suggestions of a discreet way to find out what I need to know.
