PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEERS SWORE IN THURSDAY
Lifestyle: 29 August 2002, Thursday.

Sixty-seven volunteers from the U.S. Peace Corps swore in on Thursday in Panagyurishte. The Americans have studied Bulgarian in the local school for ten days. This is the 12th group of American volunteers since 1991 who work in Bulgaria under a governmental agreement between Bulgaria and the United States. The volunteers will work as English teachers in Bulgarian schools, assistants in municipalities, local organizations, etc. U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria James Pardew attended the ceremony. Later, he inaugurated a monument in memory of the American journalist McGahan who first described the Turkish atrocities in Bulgaria.
