I was alarmed by the tone of Mr. Corollo’s article. His alarmist attitude disguised the real problems Peace Corps faces. Peace Corps has difficulties ensuring safety and security and publicly acknowledging these shortcomings. However the article made Bolivia sound like an anarchist zoo. As a good friend of Walter and a returned Peace Corps Volunteer from Bolivia, I find his article to be skewed to bring unnecessary alarm and confusion.

Two viewpoints, if we were to write an article about a few murders in inner-city Chicago and solely focus on the death and destruction in Chicago, would that be an accurate representation of what goes on in the entire U.S.?
Secondly, if a person works for ATT in New York City and in his free time he decides to a bad part of town and gets mugged and killed is AT&T held responsible?

The disappearance of Walter Porier is tragic and all who know him are upset by his loss. His disappearance and attacks on other volunteers highlight real issues that the Peace Corps needs to address, however quoting unsubstantiated theories by government officials who did not know him and writing in alarming and slanted ways will not bring these issues to the forefront, they will merely obscure the truth by inciting people against the entirety of an organization that does much good and brings tangible benefits to both people in the U.S. and countries in which volunteers serve.
