I am a good friend and co-worker of Kristy Lord.
What happened to her in Bolivia was horrible, as was the aftermath. I believe that sharing her story has helped her deal with this.
The Dayton Daily News series, which included stories about other victims, has helped her realize that she is not alone, and that what happened was not her fault.
I just wanted to thank the DDN for giving her a forum to address the unfairness of her treatment by the Peace Corps.
I think the series was well-written and fair. I don't understand a lot of the backlash I have seen in the opinion forum. I guess no one likes to think that bad things that you have no control over can happen.
I hope these articles result in changes in the Peace Corps' policies, and that volunteers will no longer have to fear for their safety or experience a lack of support.
