Series seems mean-spirited
I am a recently returned Peace Corps volunteer. I was an English teacher and volunteer leader in Burkina Faso, West Africa. In my three years in Burkina, I never felt in danger. This was, in part, because I followed the simple safety suggestions given to us by the Peace Corps.
The Dayton Daily News articles are not addressing the issue fairly, partly because they neglect to give comparable statistics for the United States. If the DDN did that, its standpoint on the Peace Corps' protection of its volunteers would be far more credible.
As the series stands, however, it seems mean-spirited and one- sided.

27 volunteers since 1996 and many victims of violence.
I am glad you had a good experience.
I am glad Peace Corps will now promote you and use you like a poster child for good behavior.
Your colleagues are real proud of you.
