The Peace Corps celebrates its 40th anniversary Friday and Saturday with a free film festival in the Baird Auditorium at the National Museum of Natural History, 10th Street and Constitution Avenue NW, and a Peace Vigil of remarks, readings and songs Saturday at 5 at the Lincoln Memorial. (Other previously scheduled activities have been canceled.) The films are "Africa Extreme," about a conservationist's 1,200-mile trek across equatorial Africa, shown Friday at noon and Saturday at 2; "The Language You Cry In," an account of how African Americans retained links with their African past despite slavery, Friday at 2:30 and Saturday at 3; and "Return to Belaye: A Rite of Passage," a look at a tribal initiation in Senegal, Friday at 7 and Saturday at 4. The Friday screenings will be introduced by former Peace Corps volunteers associated with the films. No tickets required. Call 202/293-7728.
