JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Maine Civil Liberties Union (MCLU) is searching for an Executive Director to carry out the challenging and diverse activities of the organization. The Executive Director is a spokesperson for civil liberties and provides leadership and management for the staff and Board of Directors.
WHO WE ARE
The MCLU, an affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that works to protect basic civil liberties through legal, legislative, and public education programs and special projects. Founded in 1968, the MCLU plays a vital, visible, and respected leadership role in defending and expanding individual rights and personal freedom. We have a highly capable staff, an outstanding volunteer Legal Panel and network of cooperating attorneys, and a dedicated Board of Directors. The Board of Directors seeks candidates with the following skills and qualities:
- Ability to be a strong, effective spokesperson and advocate for civil liberties issues and the MCLU, both orally and in writing
- Ability to create and manage a sustainable funding plan to ensure organizational stability
- Ability to manage and oversee all MCLU activities, supervise staff, and plan and administer budgets
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other organizations
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of and/or experience in non-profit organizations
The Executive Director will:
- Be responsible for the effective functioning of the MCLU and the affiliated MCLU Foundation
- Administer, direct and coordinate all activities and personnel of the Maine Civil Liberties Union
- Serve as spokesperson to the public, government, media, and members
- Develop and oversee a plan to ensure sustainable funding
- Develop and implement the budget
- Create and participate as the MCLU's representative in coalitions with other organizations on issues of common concern
- Work effectively with a large, diverse Board of Directors
Compensation:
- Salary up to mid forties, depending on experience and qualifications, and benefits
