Peace Corps Country Directors Needed
Each year the Director of the Peace Corps appoints approximately 25 Country Directors to lead Peace Corps programs overseas. Currently, Peace Corps is receiving applications for Country Director positions available for the summer cycle of 2002. The deadline for receipt is March 1, 2002. The Country Director is the senior Peace Corps official in the country of assignment and is responsible for the overall management and direction of all aspects of the Peace Corps program. We seek senior level professionals possessing at least five years of experience with demonstrated leadership qualities, administrative and management expertise, international development experience, and strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills.

The most common international employment opportunities within the Peace Corps are Country Director (CD) and Associate Director (APCD). Occasionally, Peace Corps recruits MDs or DOs for Area Peace Corps Medical Officers (APCMOs) for the Africa Region.
Vacancy announcements for APCD and APCMO positions are posted on this Web site. Please send one application for each vacancy announcement to which you want to apply.
In addition, Peace Corps contracts with nurse practitioners and physician assistants for two-year commitments overseas as Peace Corps Medical Contractors and individuals with a variety of technical expertise for short term overseas training and assistance contracts. Further instructions and application materials are available on this Web site.
Location Peace Corps divides its overseas posts into three regions: Africa; Europe, Mediterranean, and Asia (EMA); and Inter-America/Pacific (IAP). If you are applying for a position that is not identified with a specific country and only wish to be considered for positions in a particular region(s), please note this on your application.
Time Limits on Employment It is important to understand that Peace Corps employees receive time-limited appointments and that most employees are limited to a maximum of five years (60 months) of employment with the agency.
Language Requirements Some positions require fluency in French, Spanish, or Portuguese. Other languages may be required according to the needs of the post. Applicants will be screened for language proficiency during the interview process.
Clearances Selected candidates receive a conditional employment offer, pending medical clearance and background investigation. The employee and any dependents must be medically cleared before overseas travel is authorized. Likewise a critical-sensitive security clearance for the employee must be granted before travel is authorized overseas. Failure to receive either medical clearance or pass the background investigation normally results in revocation of the offer of employment.
Housing Housing at post is provided by the Peace Corps, or the employee receives a housing allowance. Reasonable relocation expenses to and from the country will be paid by Peace Corps, unless the employee fails to complete the scheduled overseas tour for reasons within his or her control.

1. When Peace Corps treats Separated Peace Corps Veterans correctly. That is a board set up of former volunteers which includes SPCV's. The board should be compromised an attorney representing volunteers not the administration.
2. Also, when it mandates two volunteers at every site throughout the world for safety. 23 Volunteers have been killed, died or missing since 1998. The policy hasn't changed. By the way, Was the volunteer in Mali who recently died by himself? Whatever the circumstances of his death, having two volunteers at every site may have helped with safety and security. I hope people in the administration read this.
3. That Peace Corps and DOL resolve my case correctly for their negligence.
Then, and only then, will I feel it appropriate to apply to Peace Corps as a Director.

The Director positions seem to be new as well as how the web site posts them (they have there own seperate listing).
There are some Admisitrative Officer postions that are open at Peace Corps that appear to be Peace Corps wide. They are really great jobs.
I got that SPCV means Administrativley Seperated
Peace Corps Volunteer(ASPCV?).????
Separated Peace Corps Veterans. Medically Separated, Administratively Separated, or Early Terminated Volunteer and the parents and loved ones who have lost a volunteer.
Over 60,000 have been separated early from service over the thirty years. Its alot of folks.
We distinguish ourselves because the RPCV have benefits and perceptions fundamentally different than our experiences.
I would like to see Paul Theroux as a Peace Corps director. He was administratively separated and the Peace Corps accused and believed the government of Malawi, that he was somehow over throwing the government of Malawi. Remember the Government of Malawi was run by Hastings Banda, "Lion for Life". Peace Corps blames him for teaching english.
Maybe,thirty years later, Peace Corps will see his contribution and give him an opportunity to serve as a director.
This is just an example of a separated Peace Corps Veteran. They shouldn't be able to do this to regular folks who want to give of themselves.
