Macabi Skirt®: the original Adventure Travel SkirtTM

Some Fish Story

Carol Louder's trip to the Yucatan in 1990 netted more than the macabi (bonefish) she went to catch. From her experience living and traveling in North Africa in the Peace Corps, she knew a skirt would be ideal for the heat and the culture of the Yucatan. Yet, she was unable to find a skirt versatile enough to protect her from the sun and heat, dry quickly after wading and adjust to keep from tangling in her line and, after all that, flow smoothly to cocktails before dinner.

On her return, she and friend Ann Carter put their heads together and designed the first Macabi Skirt®. Its lightweight fabric is cool, comfortable, attractive and quick drying yet gutsy enough to meet the demands of travel and outdoor use. A creative alternative to pants and shorts, the Macabi Skirt adjusts easily for changes in the weather and the activity.

Carol began to flyfish 24 years ago during a trip to Yellowstone Park in October. Since then she has fished in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Florida, Mexico and Canada. Her favorite experiences continue to be fishing expeditions with family and friends to the rivers of Yellowstone Park.

After two years teaching English in the Peace Corps in Tunis, Tunisia, Carol returned to Utah to teach English as a Second Language. She served as the coordinator for the Indochinese Refugee Assistance Program for the Granite School District and later taught ESL to adult refugees and immigrants. Carol has served as a volunteer mentor with People Helping People, a Utah organization which helps women on welfare reshape their lives. She has a continued interest in world affairs as well as affairs closer to home; she and her husband support the Henry's Fork Foundation, the Nature Conservancy of Utah and the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve in Mexico.

Carol in currently a member of the Outdoor Industry Association, the Outdoor Industry Women's Council, International Women Fly Fishers and Salt Lake 100.
