Hello from Roi-Et, Isaan, Thailand.

Hello from Roi-Et, Isaan, Thailand.

Hello from Roi-Et, Isaan, Thailand. I am Elizabeth Vickerman from Washington, Maine now a United States Peace Corps volunteer serving in Thailand the Peace Corps has been in Thailand for 40 years. This is a successful program.

I have been here since January 2001. The focus of my work is education reform but I do many other things too. This has been a great adventure for me; an opportunity to serve in the name of peace, and opportunity to experience another culture, and an opportunity to share this experience with American people.

I have been fortunate to come to this part of Thailand. I have experienced many new challenges and made many new friends. There is an old Thai saying, “If you have a Thai person as your friend, you have a friend for life.”

My success here has been with the support of friends and family in America and with the support and cooperation of Thai educators. Change here is slow but I am learning how to be patient.

Hi,Elizabeth,
I`m writing you from Germany ( Greater Hamburg area ).
For a construction-job I was staying few months
in Roi Et. It was in the year 1998, and I was
living in the Roi Et Thani hotel.
I loved Roi Et, and made good friends with a young
couple ( she Thai, he of Chinese origin ). Their
names were Khun Nong ( she ) and Khun Golf (he),-
and they were running a little restaurant called
1st class restaurant. It was 5 minutes of walking distance from the Roi-Et Thani hotel. They had by
then around 4 dogs. Maybe you got to know them. If so I would keep in touch again with both of them.
Also I have been to your lovely state of Main ( is
really one of my favourites). I spent actually two
times around a week up north in Eagle Lake, which
is very close to the Canadian border. Close to the
place where highway no. 1 starts.
Beside that I have American friends in N.Y. City,
in the Greater Los Angeles area and in Southern
Arizona. These my buddies I know for more then 35
years. No wonder as I´m already 59 by now.
I appreciate your engagement in the peacecorps, and wanted always presidents like J.F.K. for the
USA.
So have a good time and if you like send me an E-mail.
