Seems like a lifetime ago that the Groves' were in Suriname (Sur3), but I often think back to the time we spent there. In fact, I am writing a program that conjugates verbs in the Trio language. Anyway, give us a holler anytime.

Yes, I'm the one who can't stay away. . . this is my second trip back to Suriname since my COS. This year I brought 2 girl friends with me and boy, were they in shock. They were VERY impressed by the 7-foot anaconda wrapped around the planter at Torarica (so were the Surinamers; it made de war tijd) I ran them all over the country and put them back on that plane exhausted. Me, too--guess I don't want to be a tour guide after all.
Interesting how some things have changed here. Good news: my new GSM cell phone is good forever, even if I don’t use it for a year. Bad news: Torarica has cut off one-day swimmers from using the swimming pool. Good news: My landlord on Franchepannestraat got rid of the chickens. Bad news: Power Smoothie doesn’t do wraps anymore, and no roast beef. Good news: There’s a new mini-djogo….and so it goes. Meanwhile I'm waiting for my agent to sell my Suriname historical novel about Elisabeth Samson, the first black woman to challenge the Dutch law forbidding marriage to whites (c. 1760).

I am the mother of a PCV in Suriname and would like to contact the PC office in Paramaribo via email. It is not an emergency, but we have a passport question and really need to get in touch with someone in the office there.

I am about to leave to Suriname as a non-formal education extentionist and I am wondering about bathing. My literature says to bring suits to bathe in public but I wonder if that is what the locals do. I'm also wondering if I should bring a rain coat or poncho, and if I should bring a long sleve shirt. Any words of advice is also welcome.
