Costa Rica YOUNG GIRL’S SEMINAR

March 17-19, 2000

During the weekend of March 17th - 19th, 2000, four young Panamanian girls, two latin and two indigenous, accompanied by three Peace Corps/Panama Volunteers had the opportunity to attend Peace Corps/Costa Rica's Young Girl's Seminar "Constructing Bridges for the New Millennium".

The seminar addressed pressing issues such as sexual abuse, gender roles, leadership and goal setting and over 50 participants had the chance to exchange ideas and experiences with girls from Costa Rica and Nicaragua.

Although a nation-wide strike delayed our arrival to the seminar, and some of us that are little too use to the hot Panamanian weather almost froze to death; we had a wonderful time along the way. I'm sure the conference left a lasting impression on the girls as much as it did on the volunteers, and we all look forward to using the knowledge gained during the weekend to integrate it into this year's young girl's seminar in Panama.

Included is an article written by one of the indigenous participants who were able to attend the seminar thanks to the support of Janice Jorgensen and WID-GAD/Costa Rica.

Artículo sobre el seminario de mujeres jóvenes,

"Construyendo Puentes al Nuevo Milenio"

realizado el 17-19 de marzo de 2000

Cartago, Costa Rica

Y mil gracias a ustedes.
