Bruce Suzumoto
Special Projects Manager
Bruce grew up in Los Angeles and received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of California at San Diego and a master's degree in fisheries from Oregon State University. Following grad school, he spent two and half years in the Peace Corps teaching fisheries at a small university in Puerto Montt, Chile, where he became fluent in Spanish. While in Chile, he also had a hand in developing that country's huge salmon aquaculture program. After the Peace Corps, Bruce worked for Weyerhaeuser's salmon research and development program in Springfield, Oregon. After four years with Weyerhaeuser, he moved to Alaska where he worked for nine years with the Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation. He began as a bio-engineer, was promoted to operations manager and ultimately was president of the company. He worked for the Grant County Public Utility District for two years as senior biologist.
Then he moved to Portland and went to work as a biologist for the Pacific Northwest Utilities Conference Committee. Then it was off to the Public Power Council, where he has been for four and a half years.
At the Council, Bruce will be working on artificial production and subbasin planning issues. He and his spouse, Jenny, live in Portland.
