American Peace Corps director Mark D. Gearan was awarded a Charles University Memorial Medal by the University Dean Karel Maly to mark the end of the Peace Corps' work in the Czech Republic. In all, 227 Peace Corps English members, mainly secondary school and university teachers of English and lecturers on business management and the environment, have worked in the Czech Republic since 1992. They were paid about $250 a month by the United States Government, with the Czech Government providing and paying for their accommodation. Several Peace Corps members are setting up the Bohemia Corps, an organization which should continue working under similar conditions and with the similar ideals as the original Peace Corps.
