Artist's Statement
Making art exercises my senses, my body, my emotions, my intellect and my intuition. The process unifies my being; it roots me in my soul. It demands that I make order out of chaos. It challenges me to invent and test ideas, to select, assemble, combine and discard from an infinite realm of possibilities. And so the problems I've posed myself resolve and produce a feeling of completion and aesthetic satisfaction. The process of solving visual problems is an adventure into the unknown; it is a search that, when successful, ends in discovery of something I didn't know before. I grow by it. Feeling my way through the labyrinth of light and form and texture and color makes me feel alive. It shows me, like a mirror, who I am.
Making art is like a difficult and risky journey. Success is not easily won. I encounter dwindling trails, dead ends, and countless forks in the road--perplexing decisions: choosing a challenging subject, selecting appropriate materials, determining a meaningful point(s) of view, organizing objects dynamically in space, finding and balancing shapes and colors effectively, employing light dramatically. The results of these decisions create perspective, volume, movement and texture, which establish an emotional, mental and spiritual relationship with you, the viewer.
In practicing this mysterious process, I hope to join our paths, to bond our souls, to share our humanity.
