Freedom's Ring
(based on a true story)

During World War II, the small Eastern European country of Estonia finds itself hopelessly caught between Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia.

In 1943, with supplies running short and their armies in retreat, the Nazis begin looting the Estonian countryside for anything that would help them in their failing war effort. Six brave men from the tiny village of Emmaste refuse to let their church bell be melted into Nazi ammunition, so one night they climb up into the bell tower, take down the bell, and bury it in a nearby forest.

As the war rages on some of the men escape to the west, the others meet with darker fates. After the war, Estonia is absorbed into the Soviet Union, thus preventing any of the surviving conspirators from returning to restore the bell to its rightful place in the church tower.

In 1994 one man from the village returns to Estonia to find the lost treasure and to clear the name of his dying friend, accused of betraying the bell's secret for money. However, finding the bell turns out to be more difficult then he expected so he enlists the help of a reluctant U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer, Douglas Wells. Together, they embark on a journey to find the lost bell and salvage a man's honor. In the process, they traverse cultural differences and discover a bond that transcends the barriers of time and place.
