Ned Balzer
I'm loose! I have finally graduated from Mills College in the Interdisciplinary Computer Science (ICS) program. Now I can dedicate myself to being a family man and a worker bee. I just got a new job as Database and Web Programmer for CGNET Services International.
My thesis work at Mills was in the area of World-Wide Web Conferencing. I hope that my project, SIDSForum, a World-Wide Web based conferencing system focused on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, will continue to be accessible for some time. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is the leading killer of infants between one month and one year of age, causing 6000 to 8000 deaths each year in the U.S. I implemented the project as a client-server suite and collection of CGI scripts written in Java.
I also am the administrator of an Internet mailing list on SIDS, the SIDSNET List.
Some of my other interests are:
* camping and hiking
* swimming
* reading and writing short stories
* spending time with my family: My wife, Margie, and our son Benjamin
Here is our family album. Margie and I met in Morocco where we were Peace Corps Volunteers.
Here are some other web sites I often visit:
* Folk songs (Digital Tradition database)
* VITA--Volunteers in Technical Assistance
* NPCA--The National Peace Corps Association
