The American Peace Corps is pulling out of Niue after a presence of seven-and-a-half years.

During its time on the island, the American volunteer force has provided training in a range of areas, including finance, computing, social work, fisheries and conservation.

The last remaining member of the corps leaves next month.

The Peace Corps says a number of factors led to the decision, including Niue's isolation and the fact that the island has close links with New Zealand and its residents are New Zealand citizens.
