Horizon Foundation President Named To National Peace Corps Council

Richard M. Krieg, President & CEO of The Horizon Foundation was today named as a member of the National Peace Corps Association Advisory Council. The Council works on behalf of the National Peace Corps Association, which is made up of the 162,000 Peace Corps volunteers and staff who have served the nation.

Krieg is a former Peace Corps Volunteer in central Brazil where he worked in the areas of community development and public health. He was recently re-appointed by Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. to the Governor’s Commission on Service and Volunteerism which oversees Maryland’s AmeriCorps Program.

Krieg said, “I’m honored to join a group that represents both former Peace Corps volunteers and those currently in the field. The Peace Corps was the first job I had out of college and it started me on a health and community service career that’s still in progress.” Krieg has held numerous executive posts in the public and nonprofit sectors, including Commissioner of Health for the City of Chicago.

All members of the Council are former Peace Corps Volunteers or Peace Corps staff.
In addition to Krieg, members include: Harris Wofford, former U.S. Senator and former Director of the Corporation for National and Community Service; Donna Shalala, President of the University of Miami and former Secretary of Health and Human Services; Sargent Shriver, Chairman of the Special Olympics and Peace Corps Founder; Gordon Radley, President, Lucasfilms; Sam Farr, U.S. Congressman from California; William E. James, Chairman, The Rockport Group; Sandra Jaffe, Executive Vice President, Citibank; John E. Riggan, CEO, The Conservation Company, Paul Slawson, President, The Asia Foundation; Jerr Boschee, President, The Social Enterprise Fund; Virginia Kirkwood, Owner, The Shawnee Inn; and two former Peace Corps Directors, Kevin O’Donnell and Mark Gearan.

The Horizon Foundation addresses health and wellness issues through strategic grantmaking, community initiatives, and partnerships with private and public institutions. It is a community health foundation that takes a broad view of health. The Foundation is committed to building a healthy and resilient community in Howard County, Maryland.
