The US Peace Corps opens in Azerbaijan
The US Peace Corps opens in Azerbaijan
The US Peace Corps nonpolitical agency was presented at a May 2 press conference in Hyatt Park Hotel, Baku. Peace Corps Azerbaijan Director William Levin said that the agency started to work following the appeal by Azerbaijan authority. "Authority wanted the Peace Corps to start with educational staff."
Mr. Levin said that the Peace Corps would have a budget in amount of $US 1,2 mln. According to him, 4 American and 15-20 Azerbaijan citizens will initially work at the office.
The Peace Corps is a governmental agency that promotes peace around the world by sharing one of America's greatest resources: Volunteers. The Peace Corps has been operating for over forty years in more than 135 countries with three simple but powerful goals: to help the peoples of interested countries and areas in meeting their needs for trained men and women; to help promote a better understanding of the American people on the part of the peoples served; and, to help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of the American people.
