International Perspectives

I have had the distinct pleasure of spending some twelve years of my life outside of the United States. These links follow my travels since becoming one of the first Peace Corps Volunteers in Thailand in 1964.



Thailand:
From 1964-66 I was a Peace Corps Volunteer English Teacher in Chachoengsao, Thailand. From 1968-70 I was a Foreign Service staff member at the 909 radio station in Sakon Nakorn. From 1985-86 I was a Fulbright professor with the Ministry of Education in Bangkok.

Belize:
In 1975 I supervised a group of student teachers for the Michigan Consortium for Student Teaching Overseas (through Central Michigan University) in Belize City, Belize.

Micronesia:
From 1975-77 I was a Teacher Corps Director for the Union for Experimenting Colleges and Universities on the island of Ponape.

Southampton , England:
In 1977 I supervised a group of student teachers for Central Michigan University in Southampton, England.

China:
In the summer of 1985 I taught an international education course at Hangchow University, China, for the University of California, Irvine.

Mexico:
For the past five years I have conducted a student teaching program at CETYS (Centro deEnsenanza Tecnica y Superior) University in Mexicali, Mexico with Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino universities.

Laos:
From 1993-94 I was the Team Leader for an Asian Development Bank, Consortium for International Development Teacher Education Project in Vientiane, Lao P.D.R. (delivered by the University of Hawaii).

Latvia :
In the summer of 1995 I received a USIS grant to help build a North American Studies Center at the University of Lativia in Riga.

Malaysia:
From 1997-98 I taught at the Insitut Technologi Tun Hussein Onn in Batu Pahat, Malaysia through a World Bank/Consortium for International Development project (delivered by Purdue University).

Vietnam:
During the summer of 1998 I delivered a series of English language teaching workshops (with Dr. Rosalie Giacchino-Baker) at the College of Agriculture and Forestry's Center for Foreign Languages in Ho Chi Minh city and the University of Dalat sponsored by the College of the Extended University at Cal Poly Pomona.

Guyana:
During the summer of 1999 I evaluated the Ministry of Education in Georgetown, Guyana through an Inter-American Development Bank grant with the Consortium for International Development.

Yemen:
During the summer of 2000 I delivered a workshop for community college instructors in Sana'a, Yemen. This was funded by the World Bank and Consortium for International Development (delivered by New Mexico State University
