Washington, DC----Friends of Côte d’Ivoire (FOCI) announces the establishment of the Kevin R. Leveille Memorial Fund. The Fund’s purpose is to honor the memory of Kevin Leveille, a Peace Corps Volunteer in Côte d’Ivoire (CI) who was killed in his town, Tanda, in northeastern CI, on February 5, 1998.

The Memorial Fund will be administered by Friends of Côte d’Ivoire and the Peace Corps Partnership Program. The Fund will provide funding to Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) in CI doing environmental projects which will benefit children and include an educational component. PCVs will apply for the funding via grant proposals. The Board of Directors of Friends of Côte d’Ivoire, in consultation with the parents of Kevin Leveille, will choose the grant recipients. 100% of donations made to the Kevin R. Leveille Memorial Fund will be used for grants. Grants will be made through this fund as long as funds are available. Please contribute!

Kevin Ryan Leveille, 26, son of Paul Leveille and Janet Michels of Ventura, CA, and Vicki and Steven Lopez of Saugus, CA, was serving in CI as an Urban Environmental Management volunteer.

To make a donation to the Kevin R. Leveille Memorial Fund, send a check payable to "FOCI" with the memo stating "Memorial Fund" to:

This is Kamelan Magellan from Cote d'Ivoire. I worked for four years as Office Assistant in Peace Corps office in Abidjan. I met good fellas like alex Pickens III and so many others volunteers. Can you tell me where I could reachn the RPCV from 1995 to 1998.

It is about time they got a fund going for Kevin.

The Friends of Cote Ivoire should ask the Peace Corps to donate 10,000 dollars as seed money for your program.

If not they should go to Congress and ask Senator Dewine to initiate a bill for the victims of violence in service and have funds dedicated to these volunteers who gave their lives in service to Peace Corps.
