Director of Domestic Programs
Sherwood Guernsey II was appointed Peace Corp's Director of Domestic Programs in November 1995. He was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Panama from 1969- 1971. Sherwood worked primarily in rural development and started agricultural marketing, production, and credit cooperatives. Before coming to the Peace Corps, Sherwood spent 18 years in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, working as a lawyer in private practice, He also served four terms as a State Legislator in the House of Representatives for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He has received numerous awards for his work in community-based non-profit organizations. Sherwood has been active in both the Boston and the Northeast New York Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Groups. He has led advocacy workshops in National Peace Corps Association sponsored conferences as well as participated in numerous cross-cultural activities in order to "bring the world home to the U.S." He graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College and received a J.D. from the Antioch School of Law in Washington, DC.
