On March 7, 2000, Robert Gaudio, was a guest on two radio talk shows to discuss his service as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Republic of Yemen from 1977 until 1980. His appearances on WOMP-AM and WWVA-AM coincided with the commemoration of Peace Corps Day, marking the 39th anniversary of the group's creation by President John F. Kennedy. This year's celebration carried the theme "Bringing the World Back Home".

Robert served in Yemen, a third-world nation located in the basin of the Arabian peninsula bordering the Red Sea, as an English instructor, a hospital maintenance and waste disposal director, an x-ray repairman in rural clinics, and a volunteer trainer. He lived as a member of the Yemeni communities he served, learning much about a storied, diverse and rich culture while offering a human face to America for his neighbors.

Within the month, Mr. Gaudio will address Political Science students at West Liberty State College regarding the conundrum of Islam in Middle Eastern politics and French language students at Bethany College regarding opportunities in Peace Corps service for new graduates.
