I'm not sure who might read or respond to this. However... on a rare day off from my job, I noted this site and found it really amazing. The fact is that in my time in The Gambia, there were altogether two functional telephones in the whole country and definitely no personal computers.

For two years I had the pleasure of residing in a village in the Upper River Division called Sotuma Sere. I really treasured and miss the people and wonder if there is any way to learn of their current state of affairs.

I enjoyed many hours at my village bantaba and am refreshed to see this word representing a web-site on the internet. My Mandinka language skills are very rusty and yet, I would be interested in trying to communicate in that language on this site, if anyone is interested in trying. I am aware that English-language spelling of Mandinka is difficult.

I will check this site on a regular basis to see if anyone replies.

Abarika baake,

Famara Sankano Sotuma Sere, U.R.D., The Gambia, West Africa

My daughter, age 25 is in The Gambia, just beginning a two year stay with the Peace Corps. There are a few more phones there now, but are far and few between. She leaves Sunday for her permanet village, (sorry I don't have the name with me, but will be happy to share that with you at another time.) She has had some computer access when in the city, but not in the villages.

I can ask her specific questions about your village if you like. Any other information you might want, let me know.

Beverly
