Hey Ethiopian RPCV's! I am an RPCV from Honduras (93-95)getting ready to travel to Addis Ababa to bring my adopted daughter home. I am looking for advice on safe, modest, cheap lodging in the capital and figured RPCVs know better than anyone the best "off-the-beaten-path" places to stay. I have no interest in a "Hilton" experience but rather someplace owned/operated by local Ethiopians that is modestly priced. Any guidance is greatly appreciated! And if you ever travel to Honduras, I'd be happy to return the favor! Selam~ Jennifer, RPCVHonduras |

Hello Honduras RPCV; I'm so jealous... you going to Ethiopia to get your child. That's two. I [RPCV Tanzania 1986]lived in Ethiopia for seven wonderful years until 1998 and knew all the answers to your questions but now... Should you give me your email address privately or on this blog, I will email a friend or two in Addis Ababa and ask them to help you with reliable information. If that doesn't take, think about staying at Ethiopia Hotel [name of hotel - not description ]at Kazanchos and Churchill Rds. I lived there three times for four months each on a Work Permit. I think the fee now would be around 55 USD/day for a very neat and clean single with shower, hot water [if you get there first], finest food on one end with live piano on week ends, a bar on the other end and huge comfortable lobby inbetween; great security [very important], many restaurants and groceries surrounding and it's a hub of transportation. There's absolutely no place you can't get from here to there. It has fax and internet at the office. Should you get there greet Gudenesh and Zerfe and Fetly and Elsabet and Linda and Lemma and send a photo of your child?carmen.baileyATsbcglobalDOTnet |
