04/22/03 Dear Peace Corps My friend Karen Bowlsby Perez Grayson was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Malaysia around the beginning of the Peace Corps in 1964 or 1965 after she graduated from College. She considered her service one of the highlights of her life. When she returned, she got her teaching credential and has taught ESL, and Citizenship and History classes until she had an early medical retirement from the Montebello School District due to breast cancer in the past two years. She is survived by her wonderful and brave daughter Amy Perez (32) who is an artist. I'm sure long lost friends would appreciate notification of her passing this last Easter Sunday, April 20, 2003 in Venice, California. Her home address is 1034 Amoroso Place, Venice, California 90291-3944. There will be a memorial service this Sunday, April 27, 2003 from 1 pm until 3 pm at the Patricia Correia Gallery, 2525 Michigan Ave., Bldg.# 2, Santa Monica, California 90404. I don't know what the Peace Corps does for the surviving families. Or if the Government does any recognition certificate, or any current volunteers go to the memorial services. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Pamela Cummings |

My condolences. It sounds like she was an inspirational person, and you a dedicated friend. Kea, RPCV Bénin (75-78), PC Training Consultant & Staff Bénin (1980-81), PC Training Consultant & Staff Haiti (1984, 1985) |
