Below is an excerpt from the email that PCOL sent to Peace Corps upon receiving their response which they requested that we post on our site:

...your response addresses the independence and autonomy of the Peace Corps. However, I don't see anything in your response which addresses the specific concerns that that were raised regarding Section 908 of the USA Patriot Act, the Executive Order that established the USA Freedom Corps, and the possibility that the Peace Corps, while remaining independent, could be asked or required to share information that could be used by the intelligence gathering community under the clause in the Executive Order that states:

"Upon the request of the Chair, and to the extent permitted by law, the heads of executive branch departments and agencies shall provide the Council with relevant information."
Maybe the easiest solution that would put everyone's mind at rest would be a categorical statement added to your response that the Peace Corps will not share any confidential agency information or volunteer information in any forum in which it could become accessible to the intelligence gathering community.

We have not received any response to this email from the Peace Corps that they are willing to go on record with.
