A Photo Essay of the NPCA 40th plus one Closing Ceremonies at the Ampitheatre at Arlington Cemetery
Background
Last month PCOL wrote about the Closing Ceremonies for the NPCA Peace Corps 40th plus one at the Ampitheatre at Arlington Cemetery. Here we provide a photo essay on the ceremony with some commentary.
These photos were taken by photojournalist Kay Muldoon-Ibrahim. Kay was a PCV in Chile, '65-'67, and a Peace Corps photographer at PC Headquarters in Washington, '68-'69. Later she worked as a free lance photojournalist for the World Bank, the International Development Association, UNDP, and many UN agencies around the world. She spent 18 years in East Africa, living in both Ethiopia and Kenya. She now lives in Fallston Maryland with her family and spends her free time painting.
We have photographs of Senator Harris Wofford and his inspiring speech about what volunteers can do in the future to meet the thrid goal. We will be providing a transcript of the speech in our next issue.
Unfortunately, we do not have a photograph of Director Vasquez while he was speaking but we would like to note that his speech was equally memorable and that the Peace Corps has found a spokesman fully at ease in public speaking who is both eloquent and inspiring in Director Vasquez. We look forward to providing a transcript and possibly a quicktime movie of his speech in our next issue.
