I am the parent of a PCV currently in Guinea, and just returned from visiting her. Everything that I have read about Lariam from medical journals, the CDC, etc., recommens that the initial dose be started 2 weeks before going into an infected area. My daughter's staging and other staging groups were given their first dose of Lariam just 3 days before arriving in Guinea. Five weeks after arriving in Guinea, my daughter came down with malaria. I would like to know why the PC doesn't give volunteers more advance protection.
