Eritrea: Foreign minister discusses cooperation with US Peace Corps

Excerpt from report by Eritrean radio on 22 October

Eritrean Foreign Minister Mr Ali Sayyid Abdallah today met and held talks with a visiting USA delegation for peace, Peace Corps, which came to assess cooperation opportunities in Eritrea.

During the meeting, the delegation said they had suspended their cooperation activities in Eritrea due to fighting [presumably due to the recent border dispute with Ethiopia] and asked the minister that they wanted to continue with their activities.

Mr Ali Sayyid for his part said that the government of Eritrea views the Peace Corps activities positively.

During their ten-day stint in Eritrea, the US Peace Corps will hold talks with ministers for health, education and agriculture and asses the cooperation opportunities on every sector...
