Dellenback speaks at CCU 25th

Read and comment on this story from the Christian Colleges and Universities 25th Anniversary Celebration where former CCCU president (1977 - 1988) Dr. John Dellenback likened the Council's history to a massive relay race. "We all run a leg of the race and hand off the baton to our successors." The Dellenback years were characterized by the enlarging of the Council's membership to contain a ‘critical mass' of Christian colleges. From 1977-1988, the number of CCCU members increased from 31 to 77 distinctively Christian institutions. Read the story at:

Opening Night at Forum 2001 was our 25th Anniversary Celebration. In a ballroom filled with nearly 800 people we began with a flag presentation from the 13 nations represented at the Forum. Richard Allen Farmer, dean of the chapel at Taylor University (IN), led us in a time of corporate singing and praise.

Following this musical opening, CCCU board members Gloria Gaither and Mort Crim led us through a fast moving synopsis of the Council's history. This overview included first-hand accounts of the Council's history and a video showcasing the distinctives of CCCU campuses. The evening's activities highlighted the Council's past success and future potential.

Myron Augsburger Photo by Toni HerkaloHis successor, Dr. Myron Augsburger, president from 1988 to 1994, reflected, "Twenty-five years ago there were scores of independent Christian colleges around the country but we weren't doing anything together. And this council has made it possible to be a body together, with diversity and yet unity." During Augsburger's years with the Council, efforts were made to articulate a clear mission and strengthen the relationships of member institutions.

Robert C. Andringa Photo by Toni HerkaloCurrent Council president since 1994, Dr. Robert Andringa echoed the statements of those who had gone before him. "God has been faithful. As an organization turning 25, we've moved from a modest club of several presidents to a budding movement of diverse but Christ-focused institutions in 17 countries."

During his opening address, Andringa suggested that the future of Christian colleges and universities depends on institutions' intentionality toward globalization and racial harmony.
