Ford Burkhart will chair Fulbright Selection Committee for West and Central/Southern Africa

Ford Burkhart (Malaysia 14, in 1967-1969) is the chair of the Fulbright Selection Committee for West and Central/Southern Africa. The chair serves a three-year term and is appointed by the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars (CIES) in Washington, DC.

Burkhart taught at the Specialist Teachers Training Institute (STTI), on Cheras Road in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and gave an English teaching workshop far up-river in Sarawak, in a location now lost in the mists of distant memory.

Burkhart has served three Fulbrights, in Nigeria, Uganda and Malaysia, and now is a staff editor on the Foreign Desk of The New York Times where he works in a variety of rim and backfield positions including late slot and assistant to the foreign editor.

By the way, the Fulbright Selection Committees review and rank proposals in all fields -- like science, business and literature but also specialties like dance and computer applications -- from diverse, applicants, most of whom represent colleges and universities in the United States but also come from private companies, news organizations and government agencies.
