Volunteerism in the US began to over-extend itself in 1993 with the creation of Americorps. There are so many programs and volunteers that it is diffucult to keep track of them all. I would like to see some accounting that everyone could examine(other than GAO) There's Americorps, Freedom Corps, Volunteers for Prosperity, IESC, etc. The goal seems to be around 75,000(we may already be there). This is ridiculous. Peace Corps started all this and now it is a reward for companies like HP, etc. These volunteer organizations are there just to let people say they have done there federal service and move on to a better job or get a reward form the President.

The smart thing to do is cut all these programs to pre 1993 numbers.
