Were you serious about the question you asked? Under what assumption would you expect that Bush means what he says?

He is setting Peace Corps up for the kill; don't be sucked in!

Bush or Buch whatever? This guy has lied to the American people on Iraq, the economy, social security, the environment, national security plus cheated in a national election. Do you think lying about the Peace Corps is beneath him?

Bush and his administration has destroyed the Peace Corps in a slow, deliberate way. Through the promises of increasing numbers, increasing security measures, inability to understand the budgetary cycle, pushing his political agenda, most people working for the Peace Corps barely recognize this once great USG institution. One merely has to look at the opening of the East Timor PC program to see the failures created by political greed.

This president has used the same technique on a number of issues: he proclaims his intention to help education (the infamous "No Child Left Behind" bill) and then refuses to support the necessary funding. He calls for growth and development in our volunteer programs, AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps, and then allows the Republicans in congress to cut and slash that budget. He says that we are going to help Africa out of the AIDS crisis, but where is the money?
Of course, there is no money, as he's cut the taxes for his wealthy friends, and he's spending our future generations' money on his wars.
Time for a change? I think so!

I returned from the Gambia in 2000 in the middle of the Bush/Gore presidential election and I watched, starting from the selection and voting irregularites in Florida, in the following three years, this man and the neoconservatives who prop him up, basically discredit our country in the eyes of the world. We had already engaged in questionable international politics, but Bush turned the volume up. I have to question that if Bush intends to increase volunteers and funding for Peace Corps, what would it be for? Securing profitable areas in other countries to allow his neoterrorist buddies like halliburton and the likes to pillage? I agree with my fellow rpcvs, in that I never believed the fool to be anything other than a puppet for the greedy and corrupt. We don't need the Bullshit from this Bull. I for one am ready to throw the bums in jail and toss the key away.
