I was a Peace Corps Volunteer- Guatemala 99-01. I am having trouble with a journalist and Newspaper spending time and energy, 6 parts no less, on the negative experiences of a selected few Peace Corps volunteers. One of which was my daughter who had a very positive experience but only a single negative quote was all that was printed. What is the point! When we have much larger issues today that could use the focus of The Press to make a better-informed public. There have been over 170,000 volunteers in over 130 countries, making positive contribution to third world countries. The most current report shows that over 80% of the returned volunteers would like to repeat the experience.... at a cost I might add of just over $ 300 million a year - that is million not billion! The positive impact, positive contribution, positive people to people relation ships from Peace Corps is well documented. The Point is .... The Peace Corps is the most effective and powerful positive experience put forth for The United States at just pennies of the Tax Payers money
