It is legitimate to ask whether the U.S. government should be funding the large-scale provision of social services to people in foreign countries. One should be able to ask that question in a tactful way that does not impugn the motives of the Peace Corps volunteers and hurt their feelings.
Next, came Spooge. If you know Spooge, you know 3 things about him:
1. He’s a good writer/orator and therefore he run’s his mouth a lot
2. Ever since he moved to Washington, 95% of what he talks about is politics
3. He’s really funny.
And since he’s good at writing and speaking he goes on to no end about political issues until you want to rip out his tongue and shove it up his ass. He speaks loudly, never concedes to anything and is relentless with his opinions until you give up or fall asleep. But this is fine, its just Spooge and this is how he is these days. And if he’s not in a serious mode or situation, or he’s baiting someone, (like’s he’s done all his life to his little brother) he comes with the sense of humor. This is what Spooge did with the Peace Corps post. It was a mixture of his newfound libertarian ideologies coupled with button-pushing jokes to get BulTaj going. This was acceptable considering:
1. The PRECEDENT that everything is open to discussion between Fowlkas
2. BulTaj came at E-Rock.
So BulTaj just up and left, which is a very uncharacteristic move. If grad school is so stressful that he’d just write his best friends off like that, maybe he shouldn’t be managing bars. Or maybe, like a lot of people, he’s changing and he’s starting to feel like he can’t communicate with us anymore and rather than explain that, for fear of sounding like an asshole, he just walked away. These are just speculations on my part. But I do want to say this directly to BulTaj: it is true Spooge doesn’t know much about your Peace Corps experience, especially, what it means to you and what you got out of it but that’s not his fault. I think I may be the only one you’ve shared a little of that information with. The only stories Spooge has heard about Bulgaria were wild adventurous tales. You never wrote to us about the human side of it. You shared some wonderful stories with me when you visited and maybe if Spooge had heard the thing’s I’ve heard he might have phrased his opinions in another way or maybe he wouldn’t have ever said those things in the first place. If what you gained from your Peace Corps experience is private that’s fine but it’s hard to hold someone’s ignorance about that experience against them when they haven’t been given the information.
We’re all very passionate people and hold true to our convictions. Some of us (Spooge) chose to force feed our friends our new brilliant ideas, others (BulTaj) bottle up all of our thoughts and emotions for a long time and let things out in huge massive quantities. Both approaches to communicating are right. I love both of you guys and your opposing ways of communicating. I love it when we make fun of BulTaj’s corn hole and Fowlka’s g’friend or when we tease each other about…well, everything. I know you guys respect, trust and need me just as much as I do you. So you guys can kick me in the balls and piss me off all you want because I’ll always come back around. I’m confident the same goes for the rest of the Fowlkas and everything will be ok.

Let's make clear that the following things are true:
A. The Peace Corps, far from being a huge waste of time, does great things for people all over the world.
B. The Peace Corps volunteers are dedicated individuals who do great things for people all over the world.
C. I rarely know what the hell I'm talking about, and I really don't know anything about the Peace Corps.
D. All that being the case, it is legitimate to ask whether the U.S. government should be funding the large-scale provision of social services to people in foreign countries.
E. One should be able to ask that question in a tactful way that does not impugn the motives of the Peace Corps volunteers and hurt their feelings.
It's clear to me now that in trying to accomplish objective D., I did not accomplish objective E. I forgot that not everyone in this world is motivitated solely by self-aggrandizement and pussy, like me. And I hurt my friend's feelings by being a sarcastic fuck. Taj, I wrote you an e-mail expressing how sorry I am about this. I have not heard back. If you don't want to post on this blog anymore, fine, fuck the stupid fucking blog. But please write me back, even if it's just to say you don't accept my apology and I should burn in fucking hell. Then maybe, us being in agreement on that, we could have some common ground on which to start rebuilding a dialogue that has been one of the most rewarding of my life.
