NPCA Presents Awards at Annual General Meeting in Portland, OR
The NPCA announced and presented the following awards during the Annual General Meeting and Presidents' Forum weekend in Portland, OR from August 1-3, 2003:
2003 Shriver Award: Ms. Sue H. Patterson
Since 1996, Guatemala has been home to Sue H. Patterson (RPCV Colombia) where she established the non-profit organization WINGS (Women's International Network for Guatemalan Solutions). In cooperation with the Ministry of Health, WINGS has supported, among many activities, programs that provide pap smears, basic health follow-up treatments and reproductive health and family planning services in rural areas.
2003 Ruppe Award: The Colombia Project, RPCVs of South Florida The Returned Peace Corps Volunteers of South Florida channels aid directly to displaced families in Colombia to help them rebuild their lives after being displaced from rural to urban settings. Since 1999, over $9600 has been sent to Colombia in support of one education, 34 small business and 16 microenterprise programs.
