Supporters of Bob Herring have established a Web site - www.keepbobherring.com - to update supporters of Herring on a schedule of activities to pressure the Archdiocese of Cincinnati to reinstate Herring.
The Web site also includes the following list of accomplishments by Herring and Nativity School:
• He has assembled a highly qualified faculty. Among them are teachers with advanced degrees; with expertise in the visual, performing and musical arts; with mastery in technology skills; and with a true calling to offer a faith-filled education at below-market salaries.
• He has launched 17 international exchange opportunities, including programs in Germany, Mexico, France, Ecuador, India, Australia and New Zealand. For his efforts, Herring won a 2002 Global Educator Award from the National Peace Corps Association for an "emphasis on geography within the curriculum." Nominated by Neil Bush, the president's brother, Herring was one of just four U.S. honorees for the year.
• He has helped move Nativity into high-tech age, equipping the school with a computer lab and adding computers to virtually all classrooms.
In just the 2002-03 school year, Herring oversaw:
• Exchanges with Otto Hahn Gymnasium in Germany and Princeton School in Mexico City, with their students visiting Nativity and Nativity sending delegations in return.
• Expansion of a partnership with Neil Bush and his company, IGNITE, to enhance fifth-graders' knowledge of American history via computers.
• Entrants in the National Geographic Geography Bee and the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee.
• A four-day visit from the Ririe Woodbury Dance Company from Salt Lake City.
• Continued training for teachers through an Eastern Catholic Alliance of Schools for Excellence (E-CASE)/Xavier University program to integrate computers into the classroom.
• A continuation of the school's publishing program in which each student writes and publishes a handmade book. Some 430 books were published in the Nativity Publishing Center.
• National Board Certification for fourth-grade teacher Pat Burwinkel, following rigorous evaluation of her classroom performance. She joined first-grade teacher Paula Hoeffer in achieving this national distinction.
