McKenna Long & Aldridge Names Eric Tanenblatt To Lead National Government Affairs Group

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 2004--Eric Tanenblatt has been named to head the National Government Affairs Group at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP. The former chief of staff to Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue returns to McKenna Long & Aldridge, where he formerly served as managing director of governmental and regulatory affairs.

In its annual ranking published in January 2003, Georgia Trend Magazine named Tanenblatt as one of the "100 Most Influential Georgians." Governor Perdue has named him as State Coordinator for the G-8 Summit, to be held in June at Sea Island, Georgia.

"Eric is a proven force in the critically-important area of government relations, and we are pleased that he is rejoining McKenna Long & Aldridge," said Jeffrey K. Haidet, Vice Chairman of McKenna Long & Aldridge. "He brings the skills, the wisdom and the strategic reasoning that directly benefit our clients and our firm. Our public policy practice areas are growing as our clients recognize the need for sound and creative policy solutions, and Eric will be a key figure in continuing that growth."

As chief of staff for Governor Perdue, Tanenblatt worked for Georgia's first Republican governor since Reconstruction. Tanenblatt served as the State Chairman for President George W. Bush's successful Georgia campaign effort in 2000. A longtime adviser to the late U.S. Senator Paul Coverdell, Tanenblatt engineered Senator Coverdell's successful 1998 reelection campaign; directed his 1992 campaign for the U.S. Senate; and served as his State Director in Georgia. Tanenblatt also held positions in the first Bush Administration, including Special Assistant to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Louis Sullivan; and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs at the Peace Corps. He currently serves as a board member of both the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce.

Among the colleagues he joins at McKenna Long & Aldridge are veterans of elected office and government positions - former Congressman Buddy Darden; former U.S. Ambassador to Canada Gordon Giffin; Keith Mason, former White House official for President Bill Clinton; Randy Evans, counselor to U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert and former Speaker Newt Gingrich; Steve Labovitz, former Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Atlanta; Alex Albert, former Chief of Staff to Georgia Governor Zell Miller; Scotty Greenwood, former chief of staff at the U.S. Embassy in Canada; Randy Nuckolls, former legislative director for U.S. Senator Sam Nunn; Sharon Gay, former deputy chief of staff and executive counsel to the Mayor of Atlanta; and Ed Sims, former head of the Democratic Party of Georgia, who will be transferring the practice leadership to Tanenblatt in order to spend more time focusing on his corporate compliance and investigations practice.
