Letter:Peace Corps just one more corrupt government agency

Editor,
Do you trust the government?
Well, despite its forever-idealized advertising and romantic history, the Peace Corps is still a government agency. However, in this case, incompetence, denial, ignorance and politics common in some parts of the government can leave you sick, wounded and lost. The Lobo ran another of those glowing stories Jan. 29. Well, before anyone runs off to the Peace Corps, read up.
The U.S. General Accounting Office says the corps is putting people needlessly at risk. See www.gao.gov/new.items/d02818.pdf. The Dayton Daily News' huge investigation affirms this.
The Peace Corps was a great idea in the '60s, but its old models and arrogant bureaucracy serve little purpose in a tougher world.
