UAB Presents Author Lori S. Robinson and Her Lecture on Healing from Sexual Assault

WHAT:

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) African-American Studies Program Colloquium Series will present a lecture, ?From Hurting to Healing,? by writer Lori S. Robinson, author of the book, I Will Survive: The African-American Guide to Healing From Sexual Assault and Abuse.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Robinson will sign copies of her book at the lecture. For more information, call the UAB African-American Studies Program Office at (205) 975-9652.

April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

WHO:

Robinson is a free-lance journalist and rape survivor. Her book, I Will Survive: The African-American Guide to Healing From Sexual Assault and Abuse, published in March 2003, is a self-help guide that grew from her own experience as a survivor of sexual assault. Since the publication of her book, Robinson has been speaking at universities, community organizations and churches across the country about sexual violence.

Robinson is a former editor at Emerge magazine. Her work has also appeared in The Washington Post, Essence magazine, The Crisis, The Source and other publications.
