The Daily News published a seven-day series of stories on problems in the Peace Corps and how the agency attempted to cover them up. The problem included sharp increases in rapes and assaults against Peace Corps volunteers. The Daily News staff "used every tool in the book" in putting together its series: 20 months of persistent reporting; interviews of more than 500 people; travel to 10 countries; 75 Freedom of Information requests; and ultimately, a law suit against the Peace Corps to pry free public records documenting the assaults.
