Kennedy in-law Sargent Shriver made a mint managing Chicago's Merchandise Mart, helped shoot down 26 Japanese planes in a World War II battle, recruited top talent for JFK's staff, and built up the Peace Corps. "Somebody brought him a chart of how the Peace Corps was to be structured, with the volunteers under everyone else," Orth says. "He turned the chart upside down."
