Town Meeting with John Bridgeland

City Year Rhode Island had the honor of welcoming Mr. John Bridgeland, Director of the USA Freedom Corps, to a special town meeting to discuss national service and the meaning of citizenship in the United States. The meeting, held at The Providence Journal Company headquarters, gave City Year corps and staff the opportunity to speak to Mr. Bridgeland about President Bush’s national service goals and to showcase their efforts to promote the growth of socially conscious, confident and responsible youth through service. Joining Mr. Bridgeland, in addition to Rhode Island corps and staff, were Jack Ellis, President of the Bank of Newport; Alan Khazei, CEO of City Year, Inc.; Lindsey Kozberg, Communications Director of the Office of the USA Freedom Corps; Mary Lima, Vice President of the Bank of Newport; Esan Looper, Co-Director of Students and Families at CVS Highlander Charter School; and Howard Sutton, President and Publisher of the The Providence Journal Company. Upon completion of a panel discussion comprised of guests and corps, Mr. Bridgeland spoke on his commitment to the President’s vision and entertained questions from audience members. At the conclusion of the program, the Bank of Newport presented City Year Rhode Island, Executive Director Kristin Lehoullier, and the Newport team with its FY03 team sponsorship commitment.
